At that time, there was no school in this mountain village. At age 18, he walked to a school two hours away, to start first grade. He eventually moved to Canada and then to the United States, where he completed degrees in social work and community development. He could have had a comfortable life in the US, but he felt called by God to return to Haiti. He started the Emmaus School, which now has 150 students.
